Discovering the True Blessings of Life

Every waking hour of the day is a blessing and we need to be grateful to God for the countless blessings he showers on us. This article would effectively throw light on the most important things everyone should value.

Value your birth – It is a fortune that all of us are born as humans. We can truly see the miracles of God and bask in his grace. We need to acknowledge his divine creations of all the living beings on earth, our entire solar system and our ecosystem. Never compare yourself with anyone. Each of us are unique and a masterpiece. Appreciate and acknowledge your talents and abilities.

Value your parents - We are truly indebted to our parents who have nurtured us, given us life, taught values and provided us with all comfort.

Value your siblings – Learning the art of sharing and caring goes a long way in molding our personality. Childhood memories are precious and siblings help us bond better especially in good and bad times.

Value your teachers – Learning the basic and foundation lessons from our teachers shapes our future. They have not only taught the subjects but also instilled life skills like discipline, being humble, being courteous etc.

Value your house – having a shelter with comfort is a dream for many. Being nurtured by our parents in a safe environment is a boon which most of us take for granted.

Value your family and friends – We need to be grateful for the wonderful family and friends who have added immense value in our lives. Spend quality time with your parents, spouse and children. Take a vacation yearly once to create fond memories with them.

Value the food you eat - Farmers toil in the fields to give us healthy grains, vegetables, fruits, spices etc. Our mothers prepare the meals with so much love and care. We need to respect the labor and be grateful for the food we eat. Wasting food is non negotiable and should be strictly avoided.

Value the air you breathe – Vehicles emitting obnoxious gases with increase in urbanization and number of industries cropping up, we have reduced the quality of healthy air we breathe in. Few steps to control the quality of air is by planting trees, using indoor plants such as peace lily, gerbera daisy; having vertical gardens where there is a space constrain, and being mindful of our flora will go a long way in balancing the air quality.

Value the water we drink – Water bodies need to be preserved and cleaned from time to time. Rain water harvesting and careful usage of water is of utmost importance. Save water as you brush your teeth, be mindful as you shower and wash clothes, reuse the water you use to cleanse the fruits and vegetables to water the plants at home. These simple steps help us value the water.

Value all our natural resources – Being mindful of all the resources we are fortunate to use is a privilege. We are truly indebted to our future generations to pass on the lineage of the resources we inherited from our forefathers.

Value time – We have been fortunately blessed seeking the attention of our grandparents and parents during our formative years. With nuclear families being the norm today, the passage of culture heritage and family values though basic everyday interaction and quality time has become sparse. Let’s invest our time in meaningful relationships. Being mindful of the time stealers, excessive usage of social media, gadgets etc. should be evaluated personally. Invest your time wisely towards productive activities.

Value your health – Health is true wealth. Appreciating the gift of health is vital. Take time off from your mundane life routine and add any form of exercise. Try to walk in a park, enjoy the beach, play games with your children and be active. This goes a long way in having a rush of happy hormones such as Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin and Endorphins secretion, which maintains the balance between physical, mental, psychological, emotional and social wellbeing.

Value money – Understand that every rupee you earn comes with a lot of hard work and effort. Start investing wisely from a young age. Always be with abundance mentality and money conscious. Think twice before you spend, as money spent is money lost – money saved is money gained.

The list is truly endless……and these are the true blessings of life. However many of us fail to value what we need to value. People are crazy behind tangible rewards and recognitions and fail to realize that the true meaning of living is being blessed with the intangibles.

Lets together work towards building a new generation of people who value what means the most in one’s life.
